What is Audience Builder?

The Audience Builder is where you turn your imported audience list into a focused group of people you actually want to reach. By selecting a state and adding filters like the languages people speak or the passions they care about, you can narrow your list down to just the records that match. Once you’ve found the right group, you can export them with a single click.

Before You Begin

Before using the Audience Builder, make sure you’ve already imported your audience list. You can do this from the Import Data button in the top-right corner of the screen. The Audience Builder only works with records that are already in your account.

Getting to the Audience Builder

From the left-hand menu, click Audience Builder. You’ll land on a page that looks like a search tool, with filter chips at the top and a results table below.
1

Select a State

Every search begins by choosing a state. This is the geographic starting point for your audience. The current state is shown next to the word State: at the top of the page (for example, State: OH for Ohio). To change or remove it, click the small × next to the state name.
Tip: You must have a state selected to run a search. If no state is shown, click Add a Filter and choose State.
2

Add Filters

Filters let you narrow your audience to people who share specific characteristics. Common filters include:
  • Gender
  • Marital Status
  • Age
  • Language (English, Spanish, etc.)
  • Passions and Interests — how strongly someone cares about a particular topic

How to Add a Filter

  1. Click the + Add a Filter button.
  2. Choose the type of filter you’d like to add (such as Language or Age).
  3. Pick the value you want to filter by.
  4. The filter will appear as a chip at the top of the page.
You can add as many filters as you need. Each filter you add makes your audience more specific. For example, combining Marital Status: Married, Age: 50–54, and Language: English will show only the people who match all of those traits.
3

Run Your Search

When you’re happy with the filters you’ve selected, click the Search button on the right side of the page. The system will look through your imported audience and show you everyone who matches your filters. The matching records appear in the table below, including:
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Address
  • City
  • State
  • Available Data Points — the number of additional details available for that person
You’ll also see a Record Count in the top-right corner, showing how many people matched your search.
Tip: If you get zero or very few results, try removing one or two filters to widen your audience. If you get too many, add another filter to narrow it down.
4

Export Your Records

Once you’re satisfied with your results, you can export them into a file you can use elsewhere — for mailings, campaigns, or your own records.
  1. Click the Export Records button on the right side of the page.
  2. A window titled Name your export will appear.

Filling Out the Export Form

  • Export name — Type a name you’ll recognize later (for example, Ohio – Married People 50–54 – English). This helps you find your file in your exports list.
  • Record Count — Enter how many records you want to export. The page will tell you how many records your search returned and what your current export limit is. For example, it may say: “This query contains 300 records and your export limit is currently 700.”
  • Request Email Enrichment (optional) — Check this box if you’d like us to try to find email addresses for the people in your export.
About Email Enrichment: This is a paid, variable-cost service. If you check the box, we’ll attempt to find emails for the records in your export. You’ll be able to review the successful results and decide whether to purchase them before downloading.

Finishing the Export

  • Click Next to continue with the export.
  • Click Back if you’d like to return to the Audience Builder and adjust your filters first.

Viewing Your Past Exports

To see exports you’ve created before, click My Audience Exports in the top-right corner of the Audience Builder page. From there you can review, download, or manage any previous exports.
